Newfoundland and Labrador Itinerary

Day One: We fly into Deer Lake where upon arrival we transfer to Corner Brook, Newfoundland’s largest city on the West Coast. Corner Brook will be our home for the next two nights.

Day Two: Today we visit the beautiful scenic views of Corner Brook and the Bay of Islands. Following along the Humber Arm where the once legendary Captain James Cook chartered this coastline in the 1760s. We will explore Lark Harbor and Bottle Cove then return to our hotel late afternoon.

Day Three: Farewell to Corner Brook and make our way along the Northern Peninsula through the scenic Gros Morne National Park, that became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987. We will visit the beautiful Bonne Bay area and experience the history and friendly atmosphere of this region. Afterwards we will continue along the Northern Peninsula following the dramatic Long Range Mountains and the rugged coastline of the Gulf of St. Lawrence until our final destination, Port au Choix. Here we will visit the Port au Choix National Historic Site then overnight.

Day Four: We will begin our day by continuing up the Northern Peninsula to St Barb where we will embark on the ferry that will cross over the Strait of Belle Isle into Labrador. Continuing along the Labrador coast we reach Red Bay “North America’s first Industrial Complex” this is the site of the Basque whaling station that was in operation during the 16th century. We will then overnight in L”Anse au Clair.

Day Five: We will begin our day by visiting the L’Anse Amour Burial Mound that rest the remains of a young child from the Maritime Archaic Indians that date’s back 7500 years ago. We will then continue to Canada’s second tallest Lighthouse Pt Amour Lighthouse. Afterwards we will proceed to the ferry to cross over the Strait of Belle Isle ending our day in the picturesque town of St. Anthony. Here we will visit The Grenfell Experience and learn about the truly inspiring Sir Wifred Grenfell who helped many of the impoverished people in the area.

Day Six: We depart in the morning along the Strait’s of Belle Isle and into the interior to learn about the historical significance of L’Anse Aux Meadows. This is the site of a 1000 year old Viking settlement that was discovered in 1960 and became a UNESCO World Heritage site. In the afternoon we will make our way down the Great Northern Peninsula to Cow Head where we stay for the next two nights.

Day Seven: Our Gros Morne National Park experience begins with the choice between two park adventures. A half- day exploring Western Brook Pond Fjord with its breathtaking views and gigantic scenery or a spectacular entertaining Ecotour of the beautiful Bonne Bay followed by an afternoon of leisure. In the evening we will sail away on Bonne Bay for an evening of sunset and entertainment.

Day Eight: We begin our day by traveling down the Northern Peninsula leaving the Gros Morne National Park area. Today we enter Central Newfoundland famous for it’s picturesque fishing villages that dot the Notre Dame Bay rugged coastline. We will finish our day by spending two nights in the quaint little fishing Outport Little Harbor just three kilometers from Twillingate “Iceberg Capital of the World”.

Day Nine: Today we will explore the historic town of Twillingate. We will visit the scenic Long Point Lighthouse as well as the Twillingate Museum and St. Peters church, the oldest wooden church on the island. The afternoon can be spent hiking and exploring the natural trails that this area has to offer or a boat ride for the possible incredible sighting of icebergs and whales.

Day Ten: We will proceed our day by driving through Terra Nova National Park making our way through the Bonavista Peninsula to the artistic inspirational town of Salvage. From there we make our way to the town of Trinity. This little historical outport is a walking town that features commercial buildings and houses that haven’t changed in over 250 years. We will then overnight in this quaint charming Town.

Day Eleven: Before our arrival in St. Johns we will be driving along the coastal route of Trinity Bay and Conception Bay with a stop in Hearts Content. Here we will visit the cable station and learn about the amazing revolution in transatlantic communication. We will then continue our drive through the Avalon Peninsula where we will arrive in St.John’s the capital of Newfoundland, making it our home for the next three nights.

Day Twelve: We will begin our day with a half day tour of St. John’s “The City of Legends” one of North America’s oldest settlements. The afternoon will be at leisure for you to explore the charming streets and colorful atmosphere that this city has to offer.

Day Thirteen: Today we will drive down the Irish Loop to Bay Bulls where we will embark on a marine adventure to Witless Bay Reserve. Here we will witness the habitat of thousands of puffins, the provincial bird of Newfoundland and some of the best whale watching in North America. We will then return to St. John’s for a free afternoon. This evening we will have our farewell dinner in a lovely restaurant accompanied with some live local entertainment.

Day Fourteen: We transfer to the airport for our flight home with fond memories and the incredible experience from Canada’s best- kept secret “Newfoundland and Labrador”.
